Guide to College Apps : The Resume

In honor of the Common App opening and the five year anniversary of the start of my own college applications, I’ve decided to start a new series. This “Guide to College Apps” series will outline some of the most important things you need to be aware of when applying to colleges.

When trying to decide what to tackle first, everything can seem really overwhelming. When I was applying, I didn’t really have anyone to help guide me through the process, so the task was EXTREMELY daunting. I hope that through doing this series, I’ll be able to help answer some questions that you might have.

Dropping A Class 101

So I just graduated in May and if I learned any skills during my time in college it would be knowing when a class just isn’t going to work out for me. In the beginning, i was the type to try and stick it out until the end but I realized that was a dumb move. If something is wrong, drop the class or you’ll be miserable for the whole semester. Since it’s back to school season, I’ve put together a short list of things to look for when deciding whether to stay in a class.

Finding My Voice

I remember being eight years old and having my writing teacher tell me that I was destined to be a writer. You really have a grasp on this whole writing essays thing, they said. Back in elementary school, writing was like math. There was a question and you had to answer it in a certain way. I guess this is why I excelled, because math had always been my best subject.

Why do you like going to school?

I get to see my friends. I get to learn new things. I get to go to recess. Check.

Why I’m Starting A Bullet Journal

For those of you who don’t know, a bullet journal is a combination between a journal, planner and to-do list. There are countless videos and blog posts detailing the basic outline of how one should go, but really its up to you to decide the design. This kind of product is what I’ve been looking for and so I’ve compiled a short list of reasons as to why I want to start one.

Being A Morning Person Doesn’t Work For Me

Every year, I try and tell myself that this will be the year where I’ll finally become a morning person….and without fail it never works out.

I feel like being a night person is just so much more fun. I get most of my best work done between the hours of 10pm and 3am. For whatever reason, when the sun is up all I want to do is sleep or waste time doing God knows what.

At the beginning of this semester, I really did try. I went to bed every night at 11pm and set my alarm for 8am, even though my first class started at 10. Every morning, I would wake up, turn off my alarm and go back to sleep until 9. Then at 9, I would still want to sleep more, even though I had just slept for ten hours.

What is life.

Maybe when I go out into the real world with a 9-5 job, it’ll come naturally. Until then, I guess I’m stuck with my horrible nocturnal habits.

Until next time,

Keeping Your Mental Health In Check

In honor of World Mental Health Day, I thought I would make a list of things one can do to keep your stress levels low and really make sure that you take care of yourself.
